Tip:How to determine the dry extension length of welding wire?

       The dry extension length of gas metal arc welding is equal to the distance between the contact tip and the workpiece minus the arc length. When the arc voltage is constant, the distance between the contact tip and the workpiece is determined, and the dry extension length of the welding wire is naturally determined.
       The welding wire used in short-circuit transition gas shielded welding is very thin. Therefore, the dry extension length of the welding wire has a great impact on droplet transfer, arc stability and weld formation. When the dry extension is too large, the resistance heat increases and the welding wire is easily melted due to overheating, resulting in severe spatter and arc instability. In addition, when the dry extension is too large, the actual welding current decreases and the arc's penetration ability decreases, which can easily lead to incomplete welding. If the dry elongation is too small, the distance between the nozzle and the workpiece is very small, and flying metal particles can easily block the nozzle.

During short-circuit transition gas-shielded welding, the dry extension length should generally be controlled at 8~12mm.
The welding wire used in fine particle transition gas shielded welding is thicker, and the dry extension of the welding wire does not have as great an impact on droplet transfer, arc stability and weld formation as short-circuit transfer. However, due to the large splash, the nozzle is easy to clog. Therefore, the dry extension length should be larger than that during short-circuit transition, and should generally be controlled at 10~20mm.
