Tip:Why argon is usually used as a shielding gas in argon tungsten arc welding?
Argon is a colorless, odorless monatomic inert gas. When used as a protective gas for argon tungsten arc welding, it has the following advantages.
1.The density of argon is 1.4 times that of air and 4 times that of helium. Argon can be well covered above the molten pool and arc, and the flow speed is low, so the protection effect is better than nitrogen.
2.Due to the large weight of the positive ions generated after ionization, the kinetic energy is also large, the impact force on the cathode spots is large, and the oxide film on the workpiece can be well removed (this is the so-called cathode atomization), therefore, it is especially suitable for welding aluminum, magnesium and other active metals.
3.Argon is a single atomic molecule, and has a low thermal conductivity, the cooling effect on the arc is small, so the arc stability is good, arc voltage is low.
4. Low cost, strong practicality.
5.Compared with the use of helium, the arc is easy to start.
