Tungsten
Tungsten needles are slender tungsten products made of pure tungsten or tungsten alloys. They can be used as electrode materials in argon arc welding and as instrument probes. They have advantages such as high temperature resistance and good electrical conductivity.
Tungsten needles are produced from carbonyl tungsten vapor under glow discharge conditions. Needle growth occurs within a tungsten substrate temperature range of 1500 °K, but the morphology and crystallinity differ at temperatures above or below ~1100 °K.
